Mark Norrie was born and reared in Southern California.
He has many interests, as you can see, yet he feels there
never seems to be enough time in the day to fully explore
them all. Mark has been working as a VFX Artist in Film/TV
for over seven years now and recently has left the L.A. life
style behind to work in New Zealand as a FX and Lighting TD
at Weta Digital. Also, he has been credited with his first
VFX supervisor position for "I Thought of You". A short film
based on an exploration into the mind of Miles Davis during
his last days.
Previously he was in research and development in the field of Applied Laser Electro Optics. While working in the scientific field he not only had an opportunity to explore holography and mechanical design, but also was placed in charge of the layout photography and technical illustration for the marketing products.
After several years of scientific work, his interests turned more seriously towards film, graphics and photography. His background allows him an rare opportunity that combines an interest in both art and science. Both however have the common link of creativity. This combination opens for him an even richer appreciation of the experiences in life and the interconnectedness of all things throughout the surrounding world.
"Science always helps introduce order in the work, which is one of the conditions of beauty. Science in art must never predominate; must never be obtrusive; it must, on the contrary, serve; its attitude must be one of modesty and effacement....But though hidden the action of science is none the less of importance, for it is science that gives life to work and makes it lasting."
--Dr.Paul Richer (1849-1933)
He would like to take a moment to give special thanks to Becky Deem, Fred Unterseher, James Millerd, Marc and Stacey Weigert, and Volker Engel for all their constructive criticism, comments, and ideas of how to help improve himself as an Artist, Holographer, and Scientist. Also, he would like to thank his family for being there for him during his transition from science to art and for supporting his decisions in life.
Just wanted to take a moment and share with you all the funny things I have heard people say during the heat of post-production. Enjoy.
