Mark Norrie grew up in Southern California, and has always been a creative at heart, with a passion for exploration. The first leg of his career was research and evelopment in Applied Laser Electro Optics. While working in the scientific field he not only had an opportunity to explore holography and mechanical design, but also was placed in charge of the layout photography and technical illustration for the marketing products.
After several years of scientific work, his interests turned more seriously towards film, graphics and photography. His background allows him a rare opportunity that combines an interest in art and science, which both have creative elements.
Twelve years after he first began his film internship Mark is now a talented Senior FX / Lighting Technical Director (Sr. TD) working in Visual effects. He has worked at film houses around the world, boosting not only his career, but feeding his hunger for travel and exploring the world. Mark has worked at film houses including Rhythm & Hues, Sony Pictures, CafeFX, Animal Logic, Weta Digital, Animal Logic, and Rising Sun Pictures. To add to his film career he has been credited with his first VFX supervisor position for "I Thought of You"- a short film based on an exploration into the mind of Miles Davis during his last days. Most recently he has also earned himself an acting credit
in the first New Zealand Western about an odd romance between a savage outlaw and a strong willed English lady titled "Good for nothing"
"Science always helps introduce order in the work, which is one of the conditions of beauty. Science in art must never predominate; must never be obtrusive; it must, on the contrary, serve; its attitude must be one of modesty and effacement....But though hidden the action of science is none the less of importance, for it is science that gives life to work and makes it lasting."
--Dr.Paul Richer (1849-1933)
He would like to take a moment to give special thanks to Becky Deem, Fred Unterseher, James Millerd, Marc and Stacey Weigert, and Volker Engel for all their constructive criticism, comments, and ideas of how to help improve himself as an Artist, Holographer, and Scientist. Also, he would like to thank his family for being there for him during his transition from science to art and for supporting his decisions in life.
Just wanted to take a moment and share with you all the funny things I have heard people say during the heat of post-production. Enjoy.
